The Rallye was built to be raced. The FIA homologated its 1,294 cc engine on 2 January 1994 for Group A and Group N, because 1.3 litres was the class where a private driver could compete on a small budget. Peugeot Sport had to sell enough of them, so they made them irresistible.
Everything that could be removed was: power steering, central locking, electric windows, sound insulation. What remained weighed 825 kg. The 1.3 revved to 7,200 rpm and made 100 PS, more than 120 PS per tonne, delivered through a close-ratio five-speed and steered without any assistance.
